bianchi - avoind the roads. Take your MTB!

Hoping to be in Burley the 1st 2 weekends in April as mother has a new puppy on the way, might take the bike down for the second and latch onto the wiggle ride on the Sunday

Last spring wiggle event in the NF was absolute carnage with the number of punctures. I imagine with all the rain we've been having there's quite a high risk of hawthorn being washed into the roads

To be honest it depends. I did a load of riding around there last autumn and had 3 back to back which i'll put down to a dead tyre, but didn't get a visit during last spring's event (I ride GP4000s 23s if that makes any difference).

The overall surfaces are actually very good in my memory (compared to say, Kent, which is horrendous). Just need to be aware of what's washed onto them

Roads are okay for daytime rides, just have to watch out for debris. At night you can't see the potholes, that's why night rides are dangerous at moment.
Would advise that you have some bullet proof tyres (Vredestein Quattro Tri Comps) to protect against the small flints that will have washed out onto the forest roads. Have used these tyres for over a year now and no punctures (famous last words).

When in Forest you should head to Fordingbridge and the NW of area which leads out to Cranborne Chase where there is some good climbing to be had (Wingreen and ZigZag are worth doing, you could even get across to Bulbarrow Hill and Milton Abbas) You won't find that in NF.

Thanks for the advice, was planning on doing the rattler route, seems reasonable enough mix of roads/places to see/eat drink, before heading across to IoW and doing a circuit there
