edited February 2014 in MTB buying advice
Hi there, im a newcomer who is having trouble deciding which bike to buy, ive been browsing through the forums and it seems this question im going to ask has been asked numerous times, so bare with me lol.

I was thinking of buying one of these 2 bikes :
Cannondale Trail 6 2014 http://www.evanscycles.com/products/can ... e-ec053936
GT Agressor 1.0 2014 http://www.allterraincycles.co.uk/GT-20 ... l-MTB-Bike

Please note,i am using this bike solely to lose weight and then to keep in good health.....
I am not using it for serious mountain biking. Which is why my budget is low, i don't feel the need to spend thousands on a bike thats only going to be used to keep in good health.

I recently bought a Carrera 2013 Road Bike which was pretty useless to me as i found out after using it for a while that i dont like the handles or the way the tyres feel on road bikes, probably because i've used MTB's all my life..
I really dislike riding road bikes, so im switching back to a MTB, even though I will be riding it on the roads, i still feel like i need a MTB. I live in Yorkshire so i have plenty of free roads to use with no cars or pedestrians.

Which bike would you recommend me out of them 2 ?
Or
What would you recommend for me at this price range of £300-500 ? Any MTB Bike..
Thanks. :D

If you can stretch your budget by £60 and your looking for a named bike there's a giant talon1 2011 model from pauls cycles

Have a search of this forum. There are several threads in the past few weeks answering the same question - there's even a sticky at the top that would be a good place to start researching. As pointed out by muddpuppy, the Rockrider 8.1 is a great bike for the price - although almost certainly overkill if you'll only be using it on the road. For this reason, have a look at the Calibre 2.2

    What about a hybrid?

Same handlebar set-up as a MTB, more forgiving tyres than a road bike, better brakes than a roadie, some have suspension forks if you want it, but they'll be a bit lighter/quicker than a MTB on the road. Will also be able to cope with a bit of exploring as well.

Exactly what I was thinking - surely better, if it's for tarmac use?
  • hey. thanks for all the comments and help..

I will be riding on tarmac, but also bumpy paths that have alot of pebbles / rocks and i will be riding through mud & grass etc..

Im not using it for serious mountain biking.
