Consider this the official thread for Pro Tour Pundit 2014, the 9th edition of Bikeradar's season-long prediction game.

How to Play

Playing along with PTP is extremely simple - you don't have to sign up or join anything other than the Bikeradar forums. If you're already a member here, that means you're already eligible to play.

A few days before each of the chosen races, a PTP thread will be started in the Pro Race forum. That thread will contain a selection of useful links - start lists, race maps, past winners and so on. All you have to do is consider who you think is likely to win and post their name in that thread. It's that simple. If the race in question is a stage-race, you also get to predict the daily stage winners.

As you play, your scores will be added up and the overall season rankings will be updated in this thread.

Doping

Points are finalised once the race organisations publishes their results. No adjustments will be made if it later emerges that a rider has failed a drugs test or if a rider has wins retrospectively removed from his palmares.

Prediction Cut-off

The cut off is 12pm (noon) on the day of the race. This is strict so predictions at 12.01 won't be counted (exceptions made for split-stages, evening prologues etc). No GC selections will be accepted once a stage-race has begun.

Anyway good luck to everyone :)

    Thanks to all the volunteers.

Also it's good to see the Tour of Britain getting another promotion.

    Good stuff.

Glad to see the Schelderprijs still lauding it over everyone as race with the highest points to inconsequence ratio, just above the Eneco tour which can often separate the wheat from the chaff.

Since when did we throw in the Brit nationals stuff? !

Can I suggest the addition of a rule to deal with a forum crash preventing posting.
“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!
  • I thought that already happened?

Null and void until the day after forum was back up was the consensus

Yeah it happened, the 'rule' which was made up was more along the lines of "if your in your in."

Just thought it might be helpful to have it clarified and included.

  • Agreed it needs clarifying.

I think it might make it easier for the person keeping scores for that race if the stage is null and void, as you're likely to get a number of people making a pick "just so they're in", then changing on the day of the stage, which I'm lead to believe is complicated.

Could we say that if there is a substantial crash of the forum in the 24 hours prior to the race then all bets are void?

What qualifies as 'substantial' - it needs to be hours - lies with however is overseeing that race.

If the forum crashes then that days stage will be null and void.

Can I just check the points scoring?

    A classic/one-day from 50 down.
    A stage in a tour/stage race, either 12/10/6 down
Final standing in a tour/stage race 100/85/50 down

    Have I got that right?

I don't really play as I don't have the stamina for the GTs, but could I suggest that someone who is a dab hand at spreadsheets runs off some categorised winners? E.g. "King of the Classics", "Top Tester", "KOM", "Sprint jersey", "Stage race champion", "Top Flandrian" etc. based on however they fancy categorising races and stages?

Who has the specialised knowledge in one of these niches to take the relevant trophy?

If you want to organise that then I have no issue with that, but PTP takes a lot of time, more time then people realise. So I won't be doing it.

I was actually going to nominate Rich as I reckon he can write a formula in an Excel file ;-) I have utmost respect for the effort PTP organisers put in, I wouldn't dream of making it more difficult/onerous. Once the spreadsheet template was in place it wouldn't mean any more work at all, there would just be some calculated columns. But that's beyond my Excel abilities. Would be fun though :-)

Big Bean and Brucey had a stormer of a Tireno.

Good indicator of PTP form, the stage races. Classics are too much of a lottery.

He had picked Cancellara - I just picked him up wrong. 50 is the correct score

40 for his second place would nearly do him.

I'll hold the bribe for the next race
