Garmin 500 wrong date

edited February 2014 in Road general
After a ride this morning I uploaded the ride into both Garmin Connect and Garmin Training Centre. in addition I uploaded the ride into Strava.
All three areas show the ride as having been done on 11/02/2014 instead of 13/02/2014.
In the Garmin Connect site I can do a full edit and correct the date. On both GTC and Strava I can't see a way to change it.

The device itself is showing the correct time and date.

I did try changing the file name to reflect the correct date and reload it into GTC and Strava but that never made any difference.... any ideas? I've checked back on previous rides and all has been fine.

Weird! I'm not sure if this will work, but it's worth a try:

Export the ride from GC as a tcx file then delete the ride from Strava and import it from the tcx file you've just downloaded from GC.

Put a request into Strava they will change the date for you.

I gave that a try but with no success. Even though I'd edited the date in Garmin Connect, when I exported it as a tcx and then uploaded in Strava it still reverted to the wrong date.
I know I could probably get Strava to change the date for me but I really want to make sure this doesn't keep happening.

What I'm wondering is.... when I first turned on the G500 this morning and left it to acquire the satellites did it, for some reason, register the wrong date? and if yes, why would it do that?
Having done the ride I did turn it off before downloading the ride. It was only after I'd spotted the problem that I looked at the date showing on the G500 (which was correct) but by then it had been rebooted.

btw... it's running on V3.30

These devices sync their date and time from the GPS when they're switched on as far as I know. Not sure what happened in your case though.

BTW, the tcx files are XML text files. You can open the one you exported in WordPad then do a search and replace to correct the dates in the file and re-upload it. This might actually work.

Funny that you should suggest the gpx edit. I'd just done that prior to seeing your post. Thanks.
That worked, well sort of......
I uploaded it to Strava and it now shows the correct date. However, now I can only see the ride under "My Activities". I can't see in the "I'm Following" or "Clubs views. I've just written to the Strava support team.

That maybe just a Strava glitch. I notice all sorts of little things like that! Often they sort themselves out after a day or two.
Faster than a tent.......
• Interesting. I rode on Monday (10th) and when I uploaded in to Garmin Connect it showed as Sunday 9th.

Tuesday's ride however was correct as the 11th.

Something odd obviously going on!

All very strange. The Strava team have sort of resolved it but changed the date to today (14/02) instead of the correct date of 13/02. Hopefully they'll resolve this.

I've had another look at the GPX file I modified. Although I changed a time input .....
I hadn't realised that there are multiple time entries throughout the file and I'd only changed one.
In fact looking at the GPX file in more detail... the first part of the ride shows a wrong date of 11/02 and after a bit changes to the correct date of 13/02.
I'm kind of guessing that something went wrong when it first acquired the satellite then probably lost the signal and corrected itself once it got the signal again... just guessing really.

You may have inadvertantly hit the start button before switching it off the last time you used it.

After getting to work this morning, I thought I'd see how far I have to walk from the bike sheds (about half a mile).. I had a change of mind after 100 or so yards, and switched it off.

After finishing work, I got back on the bike, switched the Garmin on and pressed start, then rode home.

After uploading the rides to Strava and Garmin, I noticed my ride home started at 06:35. On closer inspection of the map, it included the few yards I had walked this morning, and had used that as the start of my evening ride home

An interesting suggestion and I suppose that could happen. However, in this case it doesn't sound likely.
The wrong date recorded was 11/02 and the last time I recorded a ride with the Garmin was on 08/02.
I've been using the turbo all week but not using the G500 to record it (no speed/cadence sensor yet).

Just thinking though... I guess I could have been playing with the G500 on the 11/02 and hit record by mistake before turning it off.
