Play in Hollowtech Bottom Bracket

Morning,
I noticed that my SM-BB5700 bracket has a bit of play, and it's not due to the pinch bolts on the non-drive side crank being loose.
Do I just need to tighten up the star bolt on that side using something like this cheap install tool or should I get a Park Tool BBT-9 to dismantle the bracket and regrease or replace bearings/cups/whatever?
(I appreciate that the third way is to leave it with the LBS, but I'd like to learn!)
TIA!

Play is transverse to axis of rotation, so could be described as up/down or fore/aft, depending on where the crank is!
Effectively, it's like the play one can get on a wheel axle.Location: ciderspace0 -
It needs taking apart - that's for sure .... probably needs a new BB ... fortunately they're not too expensive!
I've not stripped a HT2 bb before - but I don't believe the bearings are supposed to be user serviceable ...0 -
Thanks - sounds like a weekend job, then. Best order up tool & new bracket.
Much obliged to you for the posts.Location: ciderspace0 -
Half an hour with new BB, park tool, mallet & a dab of grease and all done. Found that the seal on the drive side bearing had lifted, so replacement was the right action. Possibly knock seconds off tomorrow's commute...Location: ciderspace0
