looking for a 29er xc hardtail for 1000

Hi all
I am looking for a new bike when I move house in a couple of weeks.
I fancy an xc orientated 29er hardtail and will be spending 1000 (on finance)
I have had a brief look and came across the GT Zaskar 9r sport and the Cube ltd pro. Does anyone have any experience with either bike or make any other suggestions? I am open to anything and any help is greatly appreciated as this isn't my area of expertise at all (I come from a dh background) My only real criteria is it must be from somewhere that provides decent finance packages!
In a moment of madness, I did consider the Cannondale Trail ss sl!! Rigid and single speed!! Not sure if that would be any use though?! (I'm sure its nice and light)
