The Sram red front mech,

I made a carbon cage using some 3k carbon. I cut the ti cage off and tapped some m4 threads and screwed the carbon cage on.
I got the dremel out to the rear cage and just took some chunks out to get the weight down.
I swapped all the bolts out for very light alloy bolts .

The Sram red black rear mech [ it was a black one]
I dremeled the crap out of it. You have to be brave.
I put on a fibre lyte carbon cage that I also sanded down.
Tri gold carbon jockey wheel weighs just under 4 grms , the AFC jockey wheel weighs just under 3 grms.
all bolts swapped out for nylon/plastic and very light alloy including the Tiso hanger bolt.
Also tapped out a m8 thread to put a light cable adjuster on.

I have used this set up before with no issues even when at 53t x 26 .

I always climb on my 53t so tomorrow if all go's to plan I will be putting a BTP down tube shifter [3grms] to use on the front mech and take all the gubbins out of the Sram lever on that side . That will save a whole bunch of weight around 70grms maybe more when I stick the powercordz on.

Cheers

    Interesting stuff.

Can the rear mech 'stand' being dremel'd/trimmed down so much? Can you be sure its integrity is maintained?

    This is a chap in Germany http://www.forum.light-bikes.de/showthr ... 057&page=7
has been tuning mechs to well under a 100grms .

If you go to the bottom of his page there are links to some other mech's he has tuned

He tuned a dura 7800 to 64grms and it held up fine.

I have tuned mechs before but this is the furthest I have gone my last red mech was just over 100grms .

The one I have just tuned is below 90grms. Kitchen scales I am using are crap so that's a conservative estimate.

I have not put it on a bike yet , but pretty confident it will be ok.

    Cheers

Pretty interesting stuff. I get the feeling that someone like you would come in real handy with the occasional problem or two that I have and can't seem to get a handle on. Too bad your on the other side of the pond.

School boy error. I have had to take off the to alloy bolts that attach the carbon cage to the front mech as the chain was skimming them , so just ordered some light countersunk bolts

Ordered some gold one's for more bling factor :D
