Rookie Mistake - Shimano 6800 Groupset with Shimano 6700 Hub

I just spent a lot of money on a new bike (Lynskey Sportive) for which I've spent some time assembling the various components. Fancy my surprise when the guy appointed to build it told me there was a 'snag' and that the Shimano 6700 hub is not compatible with the 6800 groupset.

I've spent the evening Googling and frankly I'm little the wiser- there's plenty of stuff on freehubs for Campagnolo wheels and Shimano cassettes but not much on Shimano 6700 hubs v Shimano 6800 cassettes/chainsets.

I understand I've made a rookie mistake but nonetheless, I seek your indulgence in the form of practicable solutions that are not going to wipe out the remains of my savings.

Yep ten speed hub and 11 speed cassette.

    11spd cassette needs a 11spd hub.

I guess you have 11spd STIs? If yes new rear wheel build.

All coved in the FAQs viewtopic.php?f=40101&t=12905742&p=18147666#p18147666

    What wheels are you running?

Might be possible to get an 11-speed freehub body to swap with the 6700 freehub.

Certainly would be cheaper than buying a whole new wheel or wheelset

It could be cheaper to get a new rear wheel, something like this.

if you have hubs, have you built the wheels yet? or are they ultegra wheels? if you are going to build wheels with normal spokes and rims, you could buy one new hub (like a novatech 11sp) and ebay the 6800 ?

    Err, 6700 wheels ?

The 6700 freehub won't take 11sp, as Nick says.
