DA 7900 and 9000 chainset compatability

Quick question which, despite extensive googling, I can't seem to find a definitive answer to.
DA 7900 chainset - can this be used with the rest of a 9000 groupset?
I know the chain is narrower, but I understand tooth size/spacing is the same on DA9000 as it is 7900.
So gut feel is yes, but I'm convinced someone on here far, far more intelligent than I will know the answer!

Yes, and vice versa.Red bikes are the fastest.0

The internal chain pitch is the same. I guess it depends if the FD can swing enough to cover the greater chainring spacing. I would say yes.

Wow. That's a good thread. Can't help but think that the 7900 Chainset actually looks better......
Hadn't realised that the 9000 rings were closer together though.0 -
So, has anybody used Dura Ace 7900 or ultegra 6700 chainsets with the new 11 speed shifters ?0

I'm using the 7900 with 9000 shifters after this thread now..... Works perfectly.0

I'm using a Sram red/black chainset with 6800 on one bike and that works really well.0
