Has anyone glued tubs using Conti carbon glue?

Need some advice, so if anyone has recent experience of the Carbon Specific Continental Glue I would be very grateful.

The instructions say glue the rim and tub and leave for 12hrs and then glue the tub only and fit.

Just wondered if anyone had some experience of that and any related advice.

Many thanks

  • It's the same procedure as all glue manufacturers suggest. Just follow it and you'll be fine

yes I ve used it and it is super strong but tbh Vitt Mastic is easier to use and has similar gluing method, so as ugo said, just follow the instructions

    Personally found it easier to
    - put tub on rim dry and leave inflated for 24hrs to let it stretch
    - glue on rim and tub and allowed to dry overnight, like it says
    - glue on rim and fit tub : I figure if you glue the rim rather than the tub at this stage it'll work just the same but will be far less messy when putting a tight tub on the rim

I use the same method as Andy above. The final glue I do to the rim, not the tub. Even after stretching Conti Competition tubs for several days I have still found them a very tight fit. Starting at the valve and stretching the tub either way as I work it on still leads to a really tight fit of the last 6 inches or so on my Zipp disc and 808 front. If the glue had been applied to the tyre as opposed to the rim it would end up a right mess! To be honest I cannot see a problem gluing the rim as opposed to the tub with the final layer....they are going to end up joined together!

So far this method has worked a treat and removing a punctured tub has proved that the bond was excellent!

I have and I apply to both surfaces (tub first, rim last) and fit the tubs while the glue is still tacky. I find it gives me an easier time trying to line the tub up. The tubs still stick solid.

I recently used the carbon specific conti glue to glue some vittoria 25mm corsa scs onto planet-x tubs. The results wasn't very good at all (but may be better with conti tyres with shallower seams). I had great difficulty trying to get the basetape at the rim edge to stick to the rim itself.. and the glue dried quite quickly.. so it was quite difficult to centre the tubular after mounting... you have to work quite fast.. The result was lots and lots of starved joints, lots of areas with big voids, where the glue on rim and tyre did not make contact...

I then bought vittoria's mastik 1, and the difference was night and day.. mastik was much much easier to work with.. it does not dry as quickly, does not get stringy very quickly like conti's glue... so its easier to cover the rim and tyre properly with enough glue... The result was a much better glued tyre.
  • I had the same experience as above. My first attempt at gluing tubs (Vittoria Corsa 23mm) onto planet X rims I used the carbon continental glue. Very poor bond even after multiple coats of glue and leaving to dry 24 hours between coats.

I then bought Vittoria Mastic and used the same method. Much better results with that glue using the same technique. Not sure if it's something to do with the tyre/rim combination but I've used Mastic since and never had an issue. Not sure if the Conti glue would have worked better with a Conti tub.
