Frayed Cable

I've been having some issues with my front derailleur not shifting into the big ring. I seem to have got this sorted but the cable has been severely frayed.

The cable is frayed a fair way down so where I attach the anchor bolt I'm having to pack in the frayed cable rather than it being all joined up nicely. A few strands have also broken off.

Question: How likely is this to snap out on a ride? Or will it be ok until spring and some nicer weather?

Thanks.

It's pretty unlikely to break, but for the sake of £2 and 30 minutes' work I'd probably replace it for the sake of neatness.

+1 It's unlikely to break but if it were mine I'd replace it now, if only to reduce the chances of impaling myself on a frayed end.

Plus I like neat cable ends with caps.
