Tyres, wheels, fork. In that order, depending on budget. If you can only afford £50, a decent set of rubber will be good. £150-200, some good wheels will bring it alive. £200+, fork will make it react better and eat up the trail.
  • Tyres then save for a new bike, there is too much to change tbh.

You can't polish a turd but you can roll it in glitter
  • Sounds like a pretty old bike.

Stick some nobby nic performance tyres of Conti Mountain kings for now and just save up for a new bike. The tyres should set you back about £15 each on bike-discount. But like someone above said, you'd have too much to change really?

Find a last years bike or a 2nd hand bargain? Otherwise a £650 Boardman or Cube Attention would be where I'd go. Otherwise, you're looking at £400 in parts and that's not including brakes and gearing. Sell the bike, put it towards the new one. Will work out to be less hassle and you get a brand new shiny bike.

2nd hand...£650 will get you a nice 2-3 year old Specialised Camber or similar though...
