Bought l/top that uses windows 8, previous comp.used vista but this W/8,is really getting me down. , I use f/fox & even with p/ups banned they still come through . The bride uses I/Ex & even with the dummies book & following the instructions the screen doesn't look like the book, I'm at a loss. Googling pop-ups brings up plenty of elimination free progs. but the caution in me takes over as this infernal box is giving me enough of a headache as it is.Any whizzo's out there?

I have no idea what this post is about. Awfully interesting punctuation though.- - - - - - - - - -

Try Google Chrome as a browser and install the free Google app Adblock and you will have no pop up ads at all.0

I had an awful time with ad pop ups and the IT support folk at work had told me to install and run SpyBot - not had any problems since SpyBot seems to work fine.

I would run this first:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/
and then maybe this:

If it's just a general problem with popups, rather than malware, try the most popular advert blocking plugin. This forum prevents me naming it directly, but here's a tinyurl link:

You could also consider Noscript, which makes you safer but means you have to explicity allow all scripts when you visit a new site for the first time, which some people find too much of a pain:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... /noscript/
This plugin will warn you about many potentially risky sites that install malware:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... sing-tool/
and this gives you protection against many spyware infections:

If you find Windows 8 annoying in general, try Classic Shell:
http://www.classicshell.net/
and see this guide for re-assigning file types to desktop rather than Metro apps, so Windows 8 doesn't keep jumping between Desktop and Metro mode:

Thanks for the constructive replies folks sarcastics excepted,I'll try some of the sites suggested . Win.8 does seem to have a mind of it's own, when I sent the o/p it was titled pop ups but for some reason it appeared with a Bought after I pressed the submit key, strange,0
