Fox 34's or 36's?

Hi all,
I'm planning a build at the moment around a 2013 Nukeproof Mega AM frame and looking at putting some 160mm Forks on the front. I plan to use the bike for everything from XC to light DH for hopefully years to come.
There are some 34's going cheapish on CRC but I was just wondering if they would be a bit flexy and should I look at finding some 36's and just shelling out?
Never owned any Fox forks so I don't really know how they are in terms of flex, I'm assuming pretty good but would like some advice from the more experienced and knowledgeable guys out there before I drop a load of cash on anything.
Cheers

I'd probably buy these if I was you:

I would also go for Pikes or Marzocchi 55's.
Fox are only any good if you go for the top end stuff.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Thing is the 34's I'm looking at are going cheaper than that, plus (I know this is a rubbish reason) but I have Rockshox forks on all my other bikes and quite fancy trying some Fox's.
The Fox's are the 34 Float CTD with Trail Adjust, reasonably top end I thought? (With my limited knowledge of the Fox range)2010 Norco Shore 2

Fox 2013 CTD is not the best by any means. Mojo can sort the damping cartridge as this is notoriously bad. They putt 2014 parts in it but iirc its £60-£80 to do this. In 2013 guise the difference between climb-trail- defend settings is poor. Climb and trail feel very similar and descend is just no damping at all.
Is the the 34's at £524.99 you are looking at? Those Rock Shox at Merlin have a further £60 off at checkout so you get them for £539.99. Honestly given the choice I'd buy the Pike and thats coming from someone with a top of the range 2014 34 and have previously owned the same but a 2013 version0 -
Yeah it's these ones

Plus the current 10% off. Making them £472 at the moment.
I have just been reading about the 2013 CTD damper actually and got to admit both pinkbike and bikeradar have pushed me away from it. Looks like good adjustment on those Pikes as well actually.
Ahh I hate decisions.2010 Norco Shore 2

I missed the extra 10% off. I would still pay the extra for the pike but thats just me, they also come with a spare set of seals.0 -
Yeah to be fair they do look like they might be the better fork.
Heart says Fox due to never owning a set and they look better IMO.
Brain says Pike cause it's a better fork...2010 Norco Shore 2

might want to wait and get the Manitou mattoc's. low and high speed compression, rebound and hydraulic bottom out. 34mm and a lot cheaper than fox and a bit cheaper than pikes and adjustable from 140-160mm internally.0

These are extremely good and a bargain

I had a set on my Reign X and they were very good. They feel like a short travel Boxxer.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
@Rockmonkey
They do look like a steal, I've got some Boxxer RC's on my Norco too so know how they feel, isn't the new charger damper in the 2014 Pikes meant to be a step up from the Mission Control though?2010 Norco Shore 2

Yes but that's why you pay more for Pikes.
Those Lyriks have similar dampers to the Boxxer R2C2.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Ok got you, must admit I'm still really tempted by the Pikes,
A mate has just pointed these out

What are peoples thoughts on them? Not much in the way of adjustment but then I guess thats why they're cheaper2010 Norco Shore 2

Good solid fork. Limited adjustment but they work.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Think I'm gonna go with the Pikes, maybe wait a month or two and see if the price drops at all. Is that likely with them being as new as they are? or is it worth grabbing them while they are on the £540 offer?2010 Norco Shore 2

I'd take them at £540 as I have seen them for around £600-£650 at some places.0 -
Bit left-field, but how about:http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/category/components/forks-suspension/product/review-xfusion-vengeance-hlr-170mm-12-46132/

The marzocchi 55 cr is only a bit more than the r and features more adjustment if it interests you0
