Bike insurance on home and contents

OK, so it's that time of year that we need to renew out home insurance.

I noticed that our current provider only have a max limit for one bike on our policy of £1000, which doesn't cover the cost of the S-Works, by any means.

I've heard people on hear recommend M&S, so tried them.

Holy crap if their quote wasn't 4 times greater than our current quote (I checked the address just to make sure they hadn't inadvertently put me as living on the Somerset plains), and that is pretty much like for like, except for adding the bike as an extra.

Anybody got any other recommendations?

Would be worthwhile insuring the bike on it's own through a specialised broker, that isn't going to add £700 on to my annual premium?

Cheers,
FJ

Mine are insured through Cycleguard which you can get an extra 10% off if you are a British Cycling gold member. My bike is only a £1000 cycle to work bike but the premium is only about £9 a month. Not had it nicked yet, so can't say if the service was any good.

If you do choose to go the B&C route, ask if your bike is covered away from home. A friend had a custom built Dolan that was less than a year old nicked from Ride London, and got home to find it wasn't covered on his home insurance :(

  • Sheilas wheels.... Adding an expensive bike adds about £13 to the policy annually. Its covered home and away, but careful about the garage. Mine is only covered up to £2000 goods which is fine for my bike.
