Ferules on Shimano calipers

Just fitting some Ultegra 6800 calipers and discovered the ferules on my (existing) outers don't fit inside the barrel adjuster. Looking at pics on the web, it looks like ferules aren't needed but I just wanted to make sure. I've only fitted Tiagra group sets before (where you use ferules on the callipers) before, so Ultegra is a bit new to me and the included instructions aren't much use.

That's correct, no ferrule needed. Give the brakes a good hard pulls after hooking everything up to seat the outers, otherwise you'll have to adjust after your first ride.

    Thanks major, very helpful.
After I made the post, I vaguely remember the 4600 Tiagra calliper on my Allez didn't have ferules fitted either, could be wrong though.
    Thanks again

Same here with some R650 calipers. Nearly 4,000 miles later they're fine with no ferrules on the outers entering the calipers.
