Planet X vs Canyon vs Rose

Both are offering really good 'entry level' carbon bikes for the money, but which one to choose?
Planet X offers Ultegra group set for the same price as Canyon's 105 kit.
I'm looking at the Canyon Ultimate CF SL7 vs the Planet X RT-57 or 58. Both are similar price level.

Is there much difference between the PX pro carbon, the 57 and the 58?

Pro Carbon & RT57 are more aggressive geometry than RT58 IIRC also RT57 has BB30 bottom bracket.
I have the Pro Carbon with Sram vgood bike IMO, I am also looking at Canyon Sram build for next +1 bike.

I've just ordered a Canyon Ultimate CF SL 9.0 so I'm biased!
Assuming they fit you equally well, I reckon the Canyon frame is likely to be the better of the two based on all the feedback I've seen on previous Canyon frames including the Ultimate CF SLX released for 2013 which is the exact same shape frame but with a different high modulus carbon lay-up. I nearly got the CF SLX 7.0 but decided the CF SL 9.0 was nearly as much bike for €1k less. The SL is a little heavier but still <1kg and should be just as comfortable if not more-so. Not much by way of reviews for the SL yet but what I've found is all very positive.

  • The RT58 and CF SL are much newer designs. If it was my choice it would be between those two. Probably the Canyon if you don't mind the wait.

Canyon are shipping week 9 at the moment for size L in black/grey. Rose bikes also looking a strong contender for the spec and money, I'm sort of leaning towards a Canyon atm.
  • Canyon frames are awesome and have a much better warrenty process than Planet x which have a very limited warranty period.
Only issue is sizing and waiting for canyons.

    and ROSE too

Its a shame we don't have those kind of "custom order" brands in the UK. The Germans are way ahead of us producing light, original and efficient bikes with bags of VFM.

Next Bike for me would be a ROSE Xeon CRS

They remind me of other "high efficiency" German stuff like HUF Houses.

Liking the look and the spec on the CRS3000. Its a toss-up between that and a Canyon CF SL9.0 now.
1 review I came across said the Rose was a little skittish and aggressive, maybe the Canyon is a bit smoother ride with a more comfortable position for an old git. I'd be interested in views either way on these two.
  • Rose or Canyon.

That said I wouldn't discount their top end alu offerings. Perhaps with Di2?

Canyon over Rose but only because I like the look of the frames better. :)

I have been debating between the Canyon SL and Rose CSL, but comments seem to suggest that the Rose is a very rough ride which concerns me. But I prefer the bike builder option for the Rose. Also looking at the Rose Team CGF which is more comfort orientated. I emailed Rose and they will sell the CGF with 105 which takes the price closer to my budget.
Canyon and Rose are at the London Bike Show so going to have a look there.

Have spent the last week looking over the specs of dozens of bikes in my price range and finally pushed the green button on a Canyon Ultimate CF SL7 with the 105 group set, compact crank and huge 11-32 cassette (current bike's a triple and its really hilly round here...), been impressed with all the views and opinions on the canyon frames and I'm quite happy with the mid-range 105 spec for my needs. Now the wait begins, but according to the website it says availability week 9 so I can live with that since conditions outside are still so dreadful.

    huge 11-32 cassette

Is this a Shimano cassette? I thought Shimano were either 11-28 or 12-30, I didn't realise they did a 11-32. If so, I would be very interested in what spec this is. I currently run a compact 50-34 chainset and 11-28 cassette on my Cube Agree. However I'd be very keen to fit a 11-32 cassette if I could get it to work with the Ultegra derailleur on my bike

The spec lists it as the SLX CS-HG81-10 which is one of their MTB cassettes. It should work the GS rear mech.

Thanks Grill - didn't realise it was an mtb cassette. Looking at the Canyon website, you get a great spec and low weight for the price, CF SL7 looks like a bargain
  • Canyon every day of the week. I have had a PX & although it was a good deal, it just still felt a bit 'meh'. I sold the frame anyway after finally admitting it was a wee bit big for me, so bought an Ultimate CF, & have not looked back since. Do your research into Canyon frame sizing first & then do it!
