Also apart from the obvious why do people choose from a 172.5 and 175

I have one, great crank, ceramic bearings, look awesome, there's not much performance upgrade with any crankset apart from maybe stiffness, it's all about the bling with this one, as for lengths I'm 6'3" and 34" leg and use 175mm.

You'll need the appropriate adapter (i.e. spacers) as the 386 EVO cranks have a longer spindle than standard BB30. See here for explanation:

  • ok thanks....would this be a decent upgrade from 105 considering using spacers

See your PM. But if you've got 105 in a BB30 already, you must have some sort of adapter in there, which you may have to remove. (?)

Yes. It'll look much cooler. That's all you'll notice.

Personally, I would just change to praxis chainrings if you want to change the look. (I agree that 105 rings look naff, and I am considering doing this myself.)

As mentioned earlier, you will probably see a small weight saving over 105, but the crankset won't make you go any faster. It all depends if you think the amount of weight saving and associated bling factor are worth the investment....
