You should be fine with the short cage (SS) version.
I've just finished a build using a standard 5700 compact (50/34) married to a Tiagra 12-30 cassette. For my bike a chain length of 54" was calculated and with that installed everything runs fine. Chain angle on the 50/30 combination is OK. With the 34/30 combination I had to fiddle with the B-screw to increase the gap between the top jockey wheel and the 30 sprocket - initially there was some rough running as the gap was a bit too narrow.
Now all sorted and the set up is great.0
