Tommy Godwin Challenge

Anyone else up for this challenge?

It is easy as there is no entry fee; you just choose your own route and date, ride the 205 miles in one day and then recording it on the following website: http://www.raleigh.co.uk/tommygodwin205/

I am going for 7th June (with a reserve option of 14th if the weather is poor) and starting at 04:30.

It will also make a good RL 100 training ride!

Are you going to do this as part of an audax?

Might as well, I'll go for June 15th on the H12h/8, although I'm hoping for more than 205 miles :)

Maybe, maybe not. Looking at last year, I rode my first double century of the year on February 16th. That's not looking likely this year unless this weather improves! I remember it being a very mild day and taking a last minute decision to ride - still time yet.

I will leave knocking out multiple double centuries this early in the year to Steve, who's done the challenge a couple of times already this year on that list. Chapeau to him.

We are doing 215 miles on 21st June, cycling from Barnsley to Felixstowe in aid of Cystic Fibrosis. Hopefully 24 of us.

Longest ride on the Longest Day.

We didnt hear, until after we had arranged it, about the Tommy Godwin challenge but we are now going to include it in our PR.

Some of us in the bike club are thinking of having a go at this later this year. Just trying to decide the best way of doing it, 50 mile circuits, out and back, out etc. Be doing it in Cumbria, so not too much flat stuff around!
A couple of years ago we were lucky enough to get Dave Barter as the guest speaker at our club dinner, and he talked about the history of the year distance record and particularly Tommy Godwin as he's a bit of a fan too. Really interesting talk. If you're ever looking for a speaker at your club dinner I'd heartily recommend him. Great speaker and just loves riding a bike!
His blog is good too... http://phased.co.uk/
