Ordered some sks raceguards to fit my canyon and ive noticed that they wont fit

Issue im having is where the mudguards attach via the brake caliper, where the bolt of the calliper doesnt go through the brackets from which the mudguards attach.( the U bend of the clip)

Ive managed to fit the rear guard but cannot fit the small extra bit.

Big issue is the front mudguard is useless as i cannot attach the main part only the small front bit that goes in front....

Any suggestions and what should i do? return and if so, what to get instead??

  • Check out this video that shows you how it is done. These are an evolution from the ones I have that only fit to the forks and stays - no brake fittings on mine.

Which Canyon? The new Ultimate CF SL/SLX or one of the others?
  • the bolt of the calliper doesnt go through the brackets from which the mudguards attach.( the U bend of the clip)

Why not - are brake calliper bolts not a standard diameter? Can't understand nor visualise why it wouldn't fit.
  • It's a canyon slx.

If you have SKS I guess it be easier to understand. Basically the bolt that attaches the brake to frame doesn't fit into/ through the provides brackets which is very annoying as I thought they be standard bolts on canton nothing fancy.

I'll try upload picture but is there any point in buying another brand as surely they have same issue? Canyon owners what you using??

I have SKS Raceblades and it sounds like a simple option would be to drill out the slot on the guard fitting to accommodate the larger diameter of the brake calliper bolt on your Canyon - provided - you could do that and still leave a bit round the edges so the guard fitting was still strong enough. How much would you need to drill?
  • I reckon another 1mm each side of bolt, issue is would the metal be strong enough to be drilled and wouldn't break.

I'm emailing SKS about this, given they a German company you'd think that one of the most popular bike companies in Germany bikes would work with their mudguards lol...

Remove the brake caliper and fit the guard in front of the fork. The caliper bolt will pass through the hole. The video above shows you.

Mmmm ... I never thought of that as a possible explanation. Makes good sense though as if you tried to fit the brackets to the rear of the fork (or the front of the brake bridge at the rear) then you would have to get the retaining nut through the bracket - not the bolt. I reckon the bolt is probably about a mm or so bigger diameter than the bolt. As bobones says the brackets go on front of fork so only the bolt needs to go through (not the nut).

If this is the explanation though how did you get the rear to fit - is it fitted to the rear of the brake bridge so only brake bolts goes through but you were doing the front differently OP?

    Intrigued ....

front brackets in front of fork, rear brackets at rear of bridge. In both cases only the caliper goes through the brackets. This is why they come with longer brackets - for deep forks
  • Picture hopefully make sense.

As you see I've had to put it in the front of fork not behind like instructions say, issue being two brackets used instead of one.

Rear is same which means cannot have both rear mudguards only one:/http://postimg.org/image/8lhkzd6e7/

Check out this video, around 40 seconds in it shows you what you need. Basically the two u shaped bits sandwich together, you select length of bracket depending on fork/frame bridge depth.

The front and rear work the same way with both brackets fitting directly behind the brake facing opposite directions. The bracket going between the fork legs may need a bit of vertical adjustment to fit perfectly.

    Hope this makes sense.

There is a short video clip on the http://www.sks-germany.com products/mudguards/raceblade long, that show the correct brake bridge brackets fitting arrangement.
