Considering a Giant Revolt 2 as a comfy road bike. Change the tyres for 28's from the 32mm nobbly's and i should have a pretty quick and pretty comfortable bike, but its only a 16 speed bike so wondering if thats enough of a range of gears ? as opposed to most 18s and 20s :?

16 is plenty if you have the right ratios which match your fitness levels....
  • Number of gears is irrelevant, as long as you have a short enough gear ratio to get you up the hills you want to go up

I have bike with 12 gear ratio's that's enough. I found a single speed enough once.

That's a massive range of gears. Which may mean you occasionally find yourself looking for a gear you don't have. In which case practice pedalling faster...

More gears just mean you can get closer to the ideal gear in any situation. It does make things easier but for most riders it is not a big difference. I have a ten speed compact road bike and ride an old eight speed MTB when visiting my wife's parents abroad. The eight speed bike works well and I rarely get stuck between gears.

You could save yourself some cash and get this instead http://www.wiggle.co.uk/felt-z95-sora-wiggle-exclusive/

OK so it has rim brakes and will probably only take 25s, but it's an upgrade in group set to 9 speed Sora and it's a stunner in the flesh: looks much more expensive than it is.

If your feeling flush then the carbon big brother is worth a look too http://www.wiggle.co.uk/felt-z6-tiagra-2013/ but limited sizes.
