Merlin has a deal on the 2014 quattro wheels at just £224.99 which seems a total bargain. Would these make a noticeable upgrade to my Specialized Roubaix 2014 SL4 which has the DT Axis 2.0's on as standard?

Cheers in advance and sorry for yet another wheels thread

  • Well you save about 330grams (about 1/3 a water bottle) and have deeper section rims for a tad more aero...
  • Absolutely! I did a carbon build last year, a Specialized Roubaix elite with full ultegra groupset. Was initialy going for Shimano RS30 but due to the supplier sending wheels with flawed spokes upgraded to Fulcrum Quattro, paid £225 from Merlin last January. I would post picture of the finished article, not sure how.
Self build is a labour of love, no matter how long it takes you get what you want unlike buying off a shelf.
It was either going to be Mavic cosmic elite or the Fulcrum Quatrro, decided on the latter
Go for it, will make a cracking upgrade :D

I got mine for £200, can't really fault them at that price?

They don't 'feel' much lighter than my older heavier wheels because there is more weight in the semi-deep rim - but they're stiff!

Previously having Cosmic Elites, I was about to get Quattros, but settled on Racing 5's just to see how shallow rim will act :) haven't built the bike yet tho.

If you can afford 225 for the quattros I'd be tempted to shop around a bit and see if you can pick up some Racing 3s or Campagnolo Zondas, which you might be able to get for £25-£50 more.

But Sciroccos feel pretty dead compared to Zondas.

That's as good as the price seems to get, and for 'factory builts' they are pretty unbeatable for the money as long as you don't weigh a ton or ride awful roads.
