Double to compact ui2

Going to be doing a bit of hilly riding this month so to save my legs slightly I am thinking of changing to a compact crankset.
Am I right in thinking I just need to lower the front derailer to compensate for the smaller big ring. While also removing a few links from the chain??
The bike in question is a 2013 scott foil 15. Wish I had ordered a compact at the start!
