Shimano groupset pecking order for hybrids?

My wife wants to buy a new hybrid while the sales are still on. I've been asked to help but as I've no idea what the groupsets are for hybrids in terms of relative quality I'm not sure what is a good deal and what is less good value for money.

Can someone let me know the rankings here?

Things can be slightly confused though since hybrids may have a mix of "Mountain Bike", "Trekking" and "City/Comfort" components.
