Buses in Majorca

Has anyone here used public transport to get from Palma to Porto Pollensa with a bike box?

I'm going there in March and wouldn't mind using the bus as a transfer if it was fast enough and able to take a bike box.
It'll mean getting a taxi to Palma from the airport, but since I've never been to Majorca, the more I can see the better.

Why not just use a hotel shuttle bus service? Be amazed if they cant take your bike box in the hold and that way you go direct from Airport to Pollensa. Think its about €10/15 each way.

I've been quoted £146 return for a transfer, which I thought was a bit steep. Think I'll contact the hotel instead.

Surely not. they charged me about 10 euros each way last year. They do charge for bikes now though. Part of the reason I stopped taking mine. They often use minibuses and can't always take a bike. When are you going?
I'm out there on Friday and have hired a car for £25 for ten days.

£25, how did you manage that?

Magic of the internet. Best price. Got to buy a tank of petrol though at usual ripoff price, but, whatever.
They also try to sell you the xtra insurance for £50 but it's £20 from internet source if you want to take it. You don't have to.

Yeah I guessed online, but are you not going to tell us what website and what company?

    Goldcar.
  • I was going to suggest car hire at the start of this thread.

There are thousands of hire cars in Majorca waiting for the influx of tourists in July and August, that sit there doing nothing the rest of the year.

So whilst it can be pricey in high season (think we haggled like crazy to get 250 E / week), out of season, I can see how 50 quid a week-ish is doable.

As for the bike bag, my wife and I hired a Fiat 500 in Nice last year, and the bag and bike did fit in - just!

I've used http://www.holidaytaxis.com/ for our Hungarian trip this year and it worked out for 40 miles each way less than £20 each with Bike Boxes, they operate out of most countries so give them a call.

    That's brilliant :D Thanks
  • We used A2B transfers who were excellent and cheap.. I hired a bike from one of at least 4 really good cycle hire shops in Puerto Pollensa..(one of them runs rides leaving at 9am for anybody to join in.. this i recommend) but u wont have a problem with a bike box on the buses. We paid around 70 euros return for 4 people... and I didn't miss not hiring a car.
Have fun the cycling is brilliant.

With easter being early I reckon it will be busy out there. Just contemplating a couple of weeks myself.

Just back from 10 days out there. Unbelievable hot sunny weather. Very busy with cyclists everywhere. Sky team managed to crawl past me twice and the Garmin team. Just wish Wiggo would stay off my wheel. :)
David Millar was going well, out on his own on one of the climbs.
  • Weather is still lovely and due to be even nicer tomorrow ;-)
