better than anything I've seen from you ;)

I'm not the one crowing about my website and trying to make out that I'm a good photographer. If those are all he's got to back up that claim, then he certainly better not give up his day job any time soon...

but still better than anything we have seen from you, but that's not surprising given your dodgy advice ;)

No you didn't. In case you hadn't noticed, a sentence starts with an upper case letter - you only quoted part of the sentence, and completely misquoted me. Large yawn.

and in almost all of them, you talk down to people like you know the absolute best of everything.

Now there's some hilarious, olympic gold standard hypocrisy from a fully paid up member of keyboard warriors' anonymous, lol. I assume you've forgotten your constant, pathetic trolling of my bike thread (amongst others)?

You can't have been looking very hard then. Unlike Declan, I don't claim to be a good photographer, but even my cack-handed amateur efforts are better than those, lol.

Er, yes you were: "Take a look at my website (in my sig) and re-think that statement". You didn't even say "you might re-think that statement", you were conceited enough to think that I'd take one look at those snapshots and definitely would reconsider.

There's two lessons for you here, Declan. Firstly, don't go round slagging people off and throwing insults around, if you can't take some coming back in your own direction without sulking. Secondly , don't try make out that you're good at something, then try back up the assertion by inviting me to click a link that shows that you clearly aren't.

They do that so they don't have to make a separate bar for the Australian market.

I'm actually amazed at how you just bend what people say and turn it around against them. You do it to everyone.

Also, I didn't claim I was a good photographer. I was merely pointing out that I'm not a bad one (yes, since I have sold numerous prints I do claim that). You really need to sort yourself out or nobody is going to like you. Can't you just agree with people instead of filtering through everyone's posts looking for a fault and then mass-quoting 5 posts disagreeing with them all?

Bear in mind that focal length affects depth of field too, when using a zoom lens - a longer focal length (zoomed in) gives a shallower depth of field (for when you want to throw foreground/background out of focus to draw attention to the subject), and also compresses perspective

Only camera to subject distance and aperture affect DOF not angle of view of the lens. Perspective only changes with subject distance. Crop out the central portion of a picture taken with a wide lenses and it looks like that taken with a telephoto.

There is only one point of critical focus, however depending on the circle of confusion you are working to, there is an acceptable depth of focus.

Wide angle lenses need care because the image projected is not flat. The edge focus point is different to that of the centre.

Brings back memories of when I worked as a focus puller in the film industry !

Using a video camera... manual focus if possible. If not, find a central point of focus and lock it before moving the camera around.

So have I - doesn't make me a good photographer. Or even a photographer at all. Certainly doesn't make you one. Like I said - if you don't like criticism then don't go around slagging people off and throwing insults around - you reap what you sow, get over it. And if you can't take criticism of your lacklustre snapshots, don't put them on the internet then invite people to click on links to them...

I've wondered that myself. I assume they're part of the same parent company, but I have no idea of whether the motyorcycle side has any input in the design or manufacture of the pushbikes, or if it's just badge engineering. I'd guess the frames are probably manufactured by one of the big far east players, like most marques?

Wow - do you actually read what people write or do you just insult them all the time for some unknown reason? I never said I was a good photographer - I don't know why you keep thinking that. If you don't like my photographs that's fine, however don't sit there telling me they're 'snapshots'. Call me/them what you like but I (and other people) think they're not bad. Seriously, just get a life and stop insulting everyone on here. You remind me a lot of that captain guy that was on here a while ago...

This from a man who's first address to me on this site was "You're an arsehole". You really are a monumental hypocrite, it's rather funny. If you can't take criticism then don't go around slagging people off and throwing insults around. Typical keyboard warrior.

What's that, if it's not a snapshot? Lifeless, boring composition, no foreground interest, no focal point, classic case of five foot ten syndrome, not sharp (maybe that's due to compression for internet use, maybe just poor focusing), no contrast, terrible exposure (I'd guess down to using matrix metering, and not aallowing for the lack of midtones) with completely blown out sky (ever heard of an ND grad filter?). It's the very definition of a snapshot - looks like it was taken with a camera phone and no thought.

Thanks for choosing one of the most boring ones for an example. That was actually a snapshot - I jumped out of the car quick and took it. Didn't have time for HDR or any composition - obviously you'll say that's just a stupid excuse to cover up my 'non-existent photography skills' but it's the truth.

I still haven't seen any of your amazing photographs (I'm not hinting that they're no good by the way) so care to share?

    Priceless.

Actually, this one's the most boring (although it's a tough call):

You're a trainspotter as well? Why doesn't that surprise me?

I never claimed to have any amazing photographs (or even any good ones). If you're that bothered about criticising them - and I'll happily accept any valid criticism, since I'm my own harshest critic anyway, and if you're picking valid faults then I will have already seen them and criticised myself for them anyway (more often than not with the delete button - if it aint worth keeping, delete it) - you'll find plenty wrong with them technically, but my composition stands fair scrutiny - then you can find some on other threads.

So you're judging me on the fact that I like trains now - what's wrong with that?

How would you react if I laughed at the fact that you bought a Boardman bike from Halfrauds?

If your own photos are not very good (as said by yourself) then what makes you think you can so heavily criticize mine?

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest - I'm not a brand snob and it was the best bike in its price bracket (it's only idiots who criticise them just because of the Halfords distribution). Fire away, but you'd only be making yourself look like a stupid brand snob.
If your own photos are not very good (as said by yourself) then what makes you think you can so heavily criticize mine?

I don't need to be able to take good photographs to spot bad ones. I can't play the violin, but I can tell when somebody's playing one badly. I can't sing, but I can hear when somebody's singing out of tune. Etc... Can you (fairly) argue against any criticism I made of your river snap above? Fair enough if I'd just said "it's bad", without justifying my viewpoint, but if you can't take criticism of your pics, don't invite people to look at them (especially not accompanied by a boast of how they'll then definitely agree that you've mastered your camera).

I'm not the one claiming to be taking good pictures - that's the big difference. If you want to criticise mine feel free, here's a few of my pics (mostly heavily compressed versions). I'm not under any illusion about being the next Guy Edwardes, Patrick Gosling, Rankin or Tim Wallace and, as I've already said, any legitimate criticism you can lay on them I will already have criticised them for myself, so knock yourself out:

Seriously, how many times do I need to remind you that I never claimed to be a good photographer? I can see perhaps two photographs in your collection which are rather nice, however the rest are simply 'snapshots' as you would call them...

If you seriously thought the point I made about Boardman bikes was my genuine reaction to them then I'm afraid you are completely missing the point here. You obviously are bothered as you appear to get quite irritated by people who actually think like that.

If you don't have anything nice to say, just don't say anything at all. This would greatly improve many people's quality of browsing on this forum.
