bike insurance

Having just laid out a pretty penny on a new bike I have decided that I may get it insured against theft. I have done the usual web searches and have a couple of quotes around the £100 pa area. Any advice on who to go with or who to avoid?

Add it to your home contents (unless it's already covered), standalone policies are generally much more expensive.0

Its the case on mine but so long as the bike is less than £1500 it goes on home contents and doesnt cost any extra, covers you for theft from your home but if you want outside/damage cover thats usually extra. As said above its better to put it on your home contents as its much cheaper, I had a £3800 bike on mine and it only added about £30 to the premium.0

Need to be careful with this, I tried to do it but found out my policy meant it would not be insured if it was anywhere but inside the house. If, for example, damage or theft occurred on a trail or travelling etc, it was not covered. If you do take this route, you need to check that it will be covered!
I went with Eversure Cycles, they were a good £20 cheaper than the rest, my quote, for a £900 bike, came out at £65.0 -

John Lewis Home Insurance cover you for all of this"Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. You have never diluted your depravity and always stand by your beliefs. You have my respect sir and your wife my pity"

Cover away from home will generally be an option on any policy, which will generally determine if bikes are covered thusly.0

I've added our bikes (mine + wife + kid = around £2k) to our directline home poilcy - special bike cover was around £50 a year addition and covers everything that can happen outside the house and has a very important third party liability (if you run over an old lady...)
Just my 2p,0 -
No extra cost for 3 bikes totalling £7k.
I've just changed form a policy that was £6 per bike per month=£18 extra to an all inclusive.
Did a comparison website search and loads came up offering to cover the bikes until I actually delved into their policy and most only covered up to £500.
Now all three are covered,no specific locks/anchor points needed and my FS and HT are covered even though I built them and didn't buy off peg. They are covered to the equivalent cost of a similar spec bike bought pre-built(NPMega/Ragley Mmmbop) 8)
Whether or not they pay out is a different matter and I hope I never have to find out
I've looked into bike-specific policies in the past and apart from being expensive(double the cost of my car Insurance for the 3 bikes) when read the small print/get out clauses/restrictions mean they are too expensive/risky/useless to consider.0
