London to cambridge route

I am hoping to ride from London (near Angel) to Cambridge this weekend, on the road bike.

The only routes I can find include sections of the Lee Navigation path and gravelly country lanes.

Are there are road-bike friendly routes out there that still take in the nice countryside? Would be grateful to hear from anyone who has done this as a quick road ride rather than as a charity pootle on a hybrid.

Thanks!

  • Your chosen destinations are linked with popular annual charity rides, search google and you'll find a few.

Id avoid the A10 for sure and try to find a route East of the M11.

    Heres an example however:

Deffo avoid the canalside bits and the navigation path. I did it last year with a group of mixed ability on a charity run and it was a nightmare sheparding them along those paths and those bits were crappy on my Italia. Once we were on the small roads past that bit things improved.

The bit from Stanstead Abbots and beyond was rather nice!
    RIP commute...
