Specilized Epic Comp vs Giant Anthem

Hi All
I have just returned to the UK from living in Cape Town where I was an avid mountain-biker, riding 2-3 times a week on a 2012 Aluminium framed Specialized Epic Comp 29er which I stupidly sold thinking bikes would be cheaper here. I really enjoyed everything about the bike except the number of times it was in the shop because of warranty failures. BB three times, rear gear lever handlebar assembly once and rear free wheel once.
The South African Specialized distributor informed me I had washed the bike incorrectly and/or neglected maintenance. For the last 20 years I’ve done my own bike maintenance and had my last bike (Giant Trance 1) for six years and only replaced the BB twice in all that time. I argued the point and got things sorted, but the fight left a bad taste in my mouth and even made me doubt that my maintenance procedures were appropriate for these bikes.
I am now looking for a bike here as we are moving towards summer(ish) and am vacillating between the Specialised Epic Comp and the Giant Anthem 29er’s. I’m not a weight weeny, racing snake or a downhill demon, I’m a 6’ 2” and 15st rider who loves to wind up a cross country bike and have fun and I want a fully suspended 29er for the comfort while I’m on a 3-4 hour ride to blow out the mental cobwebs.
I started looking at the forums and I have seen so many other people who have battled with Specialized warranty issues and been insulted by the same accusations that I’m starting to think that they are not fit my purpose.
Does anyone know anyone with a Specialized Epic Comp 29er who has NOT had problems and rides in England a couple of times a week in all weather? People who have problems are naturally more vocal than those who don’t and I’d like to hear their views and also some considered views on the Specialized Epic Comp 29er or Giant Anthem 29er question…
Thanks
