Mountain bike or Hybrid and which make

Hello All
Im going to start biking again after a few years off
Mainly to get fitter and keep fitter.
I need help with choosing a starting bike.

I will be riding on road and off road, through the woods and cycle and foopaths etc
Not sure if I should buy a mountain bike or Hybrid bike.
Ive got around £500 to spend.
Also what makes and models would you all recommend.
Please help and advise.

So if I go Roads and woods I will go for MTB

Which makes and models would u suggest ?
