vertical is good
I have 5 of these along my garage wall which I think is most space efficient - stagger the heights so handle bars don't clash.

I've got the on in the first picture, you'll need a solid roof and it'll probably leave a good mark with time. Apart from that its great but the wooden one might be better if it can stand alone.0

If you can't drill or mark the wall I think thats your only option.
I posted a 3rd party review of the floor to ceiling one on the linked thread above, and will be assembling my freestander in the next month I hope.
Think fatbirds might be the cheapest at the mo.Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

fatbirds are the cheapest and only a few quid over cost price without the time delay over my ordering it and it turning up.
can you build yours now so i can see it in the flesh?BMC TM01 - FCN 0

I wish I could - building a cupboard above the stairs is taking all of my time at the mo, including cycling time :?
I also need to sell a pool table before I have space to build/use the bike rack.
As an aside, have noticed that Tredz are selling said rack for £122.98:
http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Gear-Up-OakRak-Freestanding-2-To-4-Bike-Rack_25888.htm
Whack something cheap on to make it over £125 and you can use SAVE15 to get £15 off.
Which brings it down to £107.98 effectively - bargain!Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

How stable is that wooden free-stander? I'm looking for something similar, but it looks like the slightest knock would see it fall over.0

Is there really a problem with drilling a hole in a rented flat? Assuming you know what you're doing I'd probably JFDI!
Mind you, I don't know how swanky a place the flat is. I have a buy-to-let flat and I wouldn't give a damn if the tenant drilled a couple of holes in the wall as long as they didn't completely cock it up. If they asked I'd probably tell them they could drill internal walls only just to avoid hilarious acts of idiocy, and not to drill through any cables/pipes!.Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.0 -
guess it depends on the landlord, with my current landlord id imagine it would have been ok. with my new one i am pretty certain that it wouldnt be ok.
by and large you cant do any damage to a rental flat other than normal wear and tear otherwise you are liable. a freestanding rack is the way forward anyway as it means when i move i can take it with me easily.BMC TM01 - FCN 0

Tredz who are a similar price I think, will give you a 10% discount code if you like them on facebook. Think it only works for this weekend.Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

Evidently so!
Did you order the extra bike hangers too?
Need to get the B&D workbench out of my diningroom, get a few bits of furniture moved around/assembled, and will be able to get my stand sorted out once that is done - early March I reckon.Felt F70 05 (Turbo)
