I was lucky enough to go twice last year - if you like climbing you'll love it! When I went in Easter I saw loads of pro's including Froomey and co.

Some route info on my blog post here:

  • It's great if you like climbing :D

There are a few routes up to Mt. Teide. If you stay around Americas/Cristianos then via Vilaflor is a great climb or you have an easier route via Chio. On the Western side of the Island you have Masca which is an unbelievably hard climb and not for the feint hearted.
Also well worth considering is a day trip to La Gomera. Fantastic tarmac and empty roads. According to Strava only 10 of us have made the climb to the top. http://www.strava.com/segments/2075819?filter=overall 8)

I hired from Bikepoint to avoid the kerfuffle of taking a bike on the plane. Got a good service from the guys in the shop so would recommend. http://www.bikepointtenerife.com/bike-hire/road-bikes They also have some GPS routes on their site.

I hope to go again later in the year.

try lowcostholidays.com and you are likely to get accommodation effectively free... if not, booking.com is good for hotels.

I have loved the climbing there, and the local drivers are immensely courteous and patient. My husband would agree about Masca - the road surface is a shocker. I have really liked all the routes out of Alcala and Los Gigantes - basically, head for them hills.
