Anyone know of a decent cheaper alternative to the £30-40 BB30 bearing removal tools from Park and Icetoolz?

You'll need a rubber mallet as well if you don't already have one.0 -
Thanks Paul, that's what I was looking for.
Do you use the first in conjunction with a punch, or something else to hold it in place?
Do you use the second with a headset press, or can you get away with just hammering straight onto it?
Cheers,

I used an extension from a socket wrench to hold it in place and then hit it with the mallet. It can take a fair old whack to get it out and when it does come out it will fly.
For the replacement I just hammered it in. Just make sure you hit it flush on and not at an angle. Again don't be afraid to hit it too hard. There is a circlip on each side that stops you from hitting it in too far.0 -
Cheers Paul, I've ordered the FSA bits, and also this press, cos it's cheap and does headsets as well:

Quick update on the eBay press. I went out yesterday and 2/3rds of the way through the ride my BB started to creak when out of the saddle. When I got home the eBay press was waiting for me and I decided to give it a whirl. Unfortunately things didn't go too well and I had to resort to using the rubber mallet. I'm reserving judgement for now as it may well have been user error but I have a new frame arriving tomorrow and I'll give it another try.0

Just thought I'd report back on the ebay bearing press. I've tried 3 or 4 times to use and its a waste of time. Its impossible to get the bearing to go in straight. On one attempt the bearing got wedged in the shell and I couldn't get it out using the hammer and FSA BB30 tool so I had to go and buy an Ice Toolz puller (which actually works very well) to remove the wonky bearing.
The best way I have found without using a dedicated press is to use a hammer and the FSA BB30 installation tool http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/fsa- ... wgodEmQAUg
