Longest commute by bike to/from London?

Hi guys,

I'm a long-time cyclist but recent addition to this forum. I work for BBC Inside Out London - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0071mkv - and we're currently looking into doing a piece for television on exceptionally difficult/long commutes.

I cycle to work myself, but my journey is a little over five miles, and I'm looking for someone who undertakes a really impressive commute by bike, at least a couple of times a week (all the better if it's every day barring extreme weather!)

The piece isn't just about cycling by any means, but if we can find someone who has an extraordinary story to tell about the lengths they go to (get it?!) to get to work, that would be fantastic.

If this sounds like you, or like someone you know, it would be great to hear from you. You can get in touch with me on e-mail at tom.kavanagh1@bbc.co.uk or give me a ring on 020 7765 1210.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from you,

Tom.

(P.S., I have posted this in two subsections of the commuting section - if that is excessive or unwanted I'm sure there's a moderator around who can make sure it ends up in the right place!)

  • I do a cycle-trek that, all told, reaches into double figures - that's 10 (one-zero) long, lonely miles from Harrow to Marylebone. This route takes me through many different landscapes and terrains, from the lush vegetation of Kingsbury, down through the vast plains of Cricklewood and across the inhospitable Kilburn tundra. I have a 6-man support team in a Landrover behind me for when it goes pear-shaped. Usually do it in 45 minutes, to be fair.
  • My commute from the fair fields of Romford to the City is 15.9 miles each way according to Strava. That worthy of a gold star?

I commute from Broxbourne to Southwark via Cycle route 1 (River Lea Towpath) and then join CS3 at Limehouse Basin. Strava confirms 22 miles each way
Stopped riding mid December as the Towpath has got to muddy, back on begining of February hopefully, or as soon as its a bit drier

Used to do from Sittingbourne to the office in Canary Wharf or Sloane Square a couple of times a week until I changed job.

    Now that was hard work.....
