Have been looking considering one of these for a while http://www.hedcamz.com/hedcam-wide-604

They had a stall at Mountain Mayhem a few years ago and the build quality looked pretty good, and the accessories are included for various mounting options.

Does anyone have any experience of using these, as I'm struggling to find any MTB footage from these devices on Youtube. Links to sample footage appreciated...

GoPro is out of budget

Thanks in advance!

Spec is pretty shitty by todays standard...look for something with 1080p 60fps at least.

I've got an SJ1000 cheapo chinese cam....pretty good for £50 and comes with every attachment you can think of.
  • Thanks for the response, was really after some users opinions for the HED CAM, as I'm led to believe that some lower resolution cameras can give better results if the components (lense and CCD chip) are of a better quality.

Do you have any sample footage from your SJ1000?

i dont know anything about the hedcamz but you can get a good cheap camera for a lot less than £110.

there are many good cheap action camera to be had on ebay and other far east websites. but quality can vary.
this guy has a very good blog where he reviews many different cheap action camera, he show sample clips and points out the pro and con of the camera

he has done a review of the sj1000 £59

i like this mobius camera £42 because i can also be used as a car dvr camera (most people will use their action camera a few times then get bored with them,)

i use a 1/4 tripod adapter for my camera to use the go pro mounting system, there are many cheap gopro mounts on ebay.

Very useful, thanks for posting the links.

I'm also in the market for an action cam, but reluctant to spend GoPro money since it's not something I'll use often.

The SJ1000 looks great, but I'm going to read his other reviews too as he's tested a lot!

    Cheers ;)

The SJ1000 is old now as its been out a year I think...A life time in dodgy chinese tech circles but it's very good value. Plenty of good footage on youtube, just type in Sj1000

the SJ1000 might be a year old but when some of the chinese bring out a good camera that sell lots of units and has many followers like the SJ1000 and mobius the developers continues to develop the cameras with firmware updates. the mobius has recently had a big firmware update that as given the camera many different options plus lots of bug fix have been sorted by firmware. a 2nd party as also designed a water proof case for the mobius.
so the fact the camera is a year old is a good thing in this case because all the reported problems have been fixied.

I'll check out the mobius but IMO the SJ1000 would be the best option. Comes with everything you need. The micro USB input broke on mine within a week so I wrote it off as shit but managed to find an external battery charger for it for £4 so it's well supported with extras!

    Great buy!

I don't care about chip-sets. If it does what I want it for, at a reasonable price, and I'm happy how it looks, that's what I want. Good pictures. Good construction. Easy to program. Good features. What else is there?

I bought a SJ4000 last week. Only tested in the house with the kids / cats but quality seems pretty decent. Certainly good enough for all I'll use it for. Comes with all the usual gubbins too, although I bought a cheap chest mount as well.

Should hopefully get a chance to test it on the bike this week.
