Help guys , after some advise/info .
I am in to my boxing and do a lot of running , but i am after a new mountain bike to take the stress of my arches/joints etc
I don't like racers as i find them to uncomfortable ,although i have not bought a new bike for over 10 years I i have always been a mountain bike type guy .
My mate just bought a new 29r cannondale for £800 from a shop , its the first one i have road and i was impressed at how fast they go , what i am asking is would i be better off getting one from an internet site such as wiggle ? it seems that if i got one off such a site i would get a far better deal and much higher spec than my friends bike for my dough .
They have 2013 kona Kahuna 29r on there that cost £1095 new for £700 , this has a far better spec than my friends bike and for less money , i could get nowhere near that type of spec on a branded bike out of a shop in my area .
Heres the bike i was looking at below ,what do you think ?
Any advice or places to buy would be appreciated .
Thanks Garry

I would buy online, and Wiggle are an excellent shop.

I've just bought a road bike from Wiggle and their service was great. That Kona wasn't worth it's original price, in my opinion. I'm a biased Canyon owner, but this looks alright for less than £700 https://www.canyon.com/_en/mountainbike ... eryRequest
Paulscycles might be worth a search too.

From what i have read they get good reviews , just a bit reluctant to part with £700 when there is no one on the end of a phone if something goes t1ts up .

There are plenty of people on the end of the phone. They are a reputable business.

No idea. I'm sure they have a phone somewhere. But as an online shop I presume they are geared up for online sales.

I've never found it and I bought a bike from them a couple of years ago !!
  • Look at a Giant Anthem X29 (lifetime frame warranty)
you'll get 2013 bike for around the same money and read the reviews!
    I bought this years model (X29er 1)

Unless your doing XC events, don't get too hung up on the 29er thing, as the 27.5 is probably better for multi purpose riding and is replacing the older 26".

Before you buy a bike, be honest with your self and decide what your going to use for. Is it really the right type of bike?
There are some really good hybrids out here which can handle Forrest trails, but still good for road and commute use (Specialized Sirrus, Boardman Hybrid port ETC).
You pay a lot extra for suspension.

Most UK online shops are reputable, but most have physical stores as well. If they sell this years models then it normally means they are a recognized dealer. Specialized, Giant, Cannondale ETC, wont sell to dodgy dealers and your protected with a lot of warranties. Use a credit card for even more protection.
Wiggle are one of the best. I've had brilliantly dealings with "High on Bikes" and "Woolly hat shop" "Evans Cycles" over the years. Just bought mine from Formby Cycles.
Most shops will price match especially if they do online sales (which most do).

You can always support your local bike shop (LBS) as you'll get a free service that you can actually attend, build a relationship with and more than likely use in the future for repairs.

Its January, most people are skint and there are deals to be done.
Just go with the best deal!

sorry meant to say 70% on road
I am thinking more along the lines of this bike below now , my friend is a manager and says he can get me over 20% off the price and at least i can see it set up and pick it up , i have heard some storys about wiggle so don't really wanna go through the hassle of sending stuff back etc
Besides i think this bike below is a better looking bike than the Kona i posted .

Why do you have spaces after punctuation? I'm thinking this is a reason why you're sceptical about online purchasing

Like the canyon I linked to and others up their range, loads of choice at Paulscycles, this Radon http://www.bike-discount.de/shop/k1275/ ... imano.html (pick up the phone to the German's, their English is superb).

Someone else posted a link to Canyon on another forum , If i am honest i would rather pay an extra £200 and have a more well known brand thats more familiar to me , like Whyte, specialised ,marin, scott,gt etc
A friend of mine is a manager of lesurelakes, since i made this thread he said he would give me a big chunk of discount of a £850-£1000 bike :)
I was thinking of ether the Whyte one below
    http://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/p/1484 ... -bike-2014
Or this horrible green specialised rockhopper below , in ethe shop they call it the hulk lol, just don't know wether the colour i would tire of ?

    Then take his advice.
The Radon is better in every way though.

  • I bought the 2014 specialised rockhopper pro evo (the hulk)in the end , preferred the quality of it and it had a bit better brakes so i am told , very pleased with it and the price :)

Personally think you've been turned over, but as long as your happy its all good.
  • How do you know he got turned over, he never said how much! He did say his mate the manager would give a decent discount. I can see how this guy has changed his mind several times in this thread and not really taken any advice from anyone ( which may be annoying), but why kill his moment? No need for the negative vibe stuff.
To most buying a new bike is a big deal, let him enjoy his purchase even if it's not our choice!

if you got it for the same price as a decent budget brand, then it's a good deal as it will always be worth that bit more later on due to the people who fall for a 'brand'.

Remember the only part of any bike that is really unique to that brand is the frame, just about every other component is the same as you get on other brands, value on ebay does not reflect a bikes ability on the trail.

At the end of the day, as long as it works for you, that is what matters.

The Mercedes comment does you no favours.
