Hi everyone.
I'm after a affordable 2.3 tyres which can be reasonably light and grippy in the UK's wet conditions.Currently I have Continental Mountain King 2.2 MK2 but they don't feel grippy on wet roots and rocks, especially on the front, they perform well on dry conditions though. So my question is does anyone have experience with Continental Baron 2.3/Vertical 2.3/Gravity 2.3(they are around 35 quid for a pair in Chain Reaction at the moment).I ride mostly on red trails and some black parts XC/All Mountain.Thank you.

If you have the black chilli compound version you have plenty of grip compared with other tyres and good rolling resistance

I've been happy with the Black-Chili Baron I've been running the past couple of months. Noticably better than the usual High Roller and Minion I used to go between. Still, as above, grip on wet roots is relative: getting across them quickly is the best way of avoiding them.0

Just remember that it was wet roots that gave NASA the idea for Teflon
About to order some conti rubber queens (black chili) flavour based on several other threads0 -
Cheers lads, I'll have a look at the black chilly models eventually for the front wheel0

I have that tyre at the front and it doesn't grip a wet root any better than my age old year old panaracer XC pros.0 -

The only tyre that gave me any confidence with wet roots that I have tried is a Specialized Clutch DH but I cant see you wanting it on a xc bike. Too heavy.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0

I never mentioned wet roots !
I've also got a Hans Dampf Trailstar on my bike. The compound feels a little softer and grips slightly more on wet rocks at the expense of noticeably greater rolling resistance.0 -

no but the OP did0 -
Hans Dampfs are pretty good on wet roots but the sheer size can mean a few clearance issues this time of year, but overall a great tyre!0

I agree, but doesn't stop roots being evil. Look closely next time and you'll see their nasty little eyes watching you, just waiting.I don't do smileys.

If you have OE MK's with wire bead, then they are rubbish and proper MK's (with rubber instead of plastic for the tread) are much much better.
I agree with CD, the roots all have eyes, but you won't see them, they are on the trailing side so they can see you crash, they don't need to know you are coming to trip you up, their special excretion developed over 1000's or years of evolution to be the slipperiest substance on the planet sees to that.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
