mcafee antivirus is an appalling piece of junk, see john mcafee's opinion on his former company's antivirus software and how to uninstall it...

...if you can get rid of mcafee, put the free avast antivirus on there instead http://www.avast.com/en-gb/index-win

    another possibility is...

there's a long running windows bug related to software update, it causes the pc to go really slow, might be the issue, though depends which version you've got

the temporary fix is to either wait a loooooooong time, or, kill the update process, install the very latest version of internet explorer from ms's site, then run windows update

but until ms fixes the root cause, the next time ms update ie, the problem will recur, the pc will again run like a dog until updated once more

  • I installed mcafee once a couple of years back, it dragged my laptop down to being useless, get rid.
Got a place in the Pyrenees.
    Do bike and ski stuff.
  • Thanks to the pair of you, disinstalled mcafee and installed avast certainly working quicker than it was. Happy days :-)
