Does anyone know the recommended torque for the expansion wedge/bung that fits in the top of a Giant carbon fork? I've been fettling my Defy and am unsure how tight to do it back up again. It's part number 5 in this picture http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/technology/overdrive/50/ - that fits inside the top of the steerer and the top cap screws into.

steerer bungs need only to be tight enough to not slip when preloading the headset bearings, try 5-6Nm, if it stays put, fine, if not, try a smidge more, once preload is set and the stem clamped, the bung torque no longer matters
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny
  • Makes sense - thanks.
  • Yep got a defy which I take apart frequently. Just nipped up to take out slack then another 1/8th of a turn
