Still fugly and extremely overpriced. Even by Orange standars thats bloody expensive.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Can you spec it without all the purple coloured shite "Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. You have never diluted your depravity and always stand by your beliefs. You have my respect sir and your wife my pity"

Gorgeous bike, but good grief - you'd have to be mad to spend that!0

With SLX!!!!Trail fun - Transition Bandit
Road - Wilier Izoard Centaur/Cube Agree C62 Disc
Allround - Cotic Solaris0 -
That is insanely expensive for what it is!! Paying for the name as usual I'm afraid.0
-
That is just insane!
Especially when I've just built a HT and know how much better value can be had. I paid £160 for the Duster frame, £350 for SLX groupset (incl brakes) and ~£120 on Crank Bros stem/bars/seatpost (all new). That's a total of £630. I had the rest from the spares bin but allow say wheels (£200), forks (Rebas can be had for £300), tyres (£60) and leave £70 for bits and pieces incl saddle, that's another £630, giving a total of ~£1250.
That's half of the price of that Orange. Okay spec is a bit lower, but Orange don't pay retail price for theitr kit
WTF are they on? You can get sooooooo much more for that money
How long before this becomes another 'Orange hate' thread?0 -
Personally I don't like that purple, id prefer a cotic hardtail. Orange are a joke when it comes to pricing.0

The price makes it even uglier. You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -

Well this didn't go how he expected at all!
It's alright looking, frame has nice lines but the colours are a mess. Should have black golded it. But the price is ridiculous. On the plus side, it's a far eastern orange which means it'll have been welded by someone that both knows what he's doing, and gives a shit, more than I can say for my english one.Uncompromising extremist0 -

Even if it was a carbon frame that would be too expensive.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

I know they're completely different frames, but the fact that my 2013 alluminium hardtail frame costs £180, kind of puts it into perspective. That frame must work out to be around a grand surely0
-
Rather bored at work, so I thought I'd price up the spec or as near as I can find. (retail price of course)
(Edit - just realised they are 26" forks and wheels below and 29" may be a bit more. Not gonna make much difference though)
Forks £329 http://www.merlincycles.com/rockshox-sid-rl-forks-2013-59427.html
Front Mech £19 http://www.merlincycles.com/shimano-slx-m670-triple-front-derailleur-top-swing-59187.html
Rear Mech £49 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shimano-xt-m786-shadow-10-speed-rear-mech/rp-prod83162
Shifters incl cables £44 http://www.merlincycles.com/slx-m670-slx-10-speed-gear-levers-58855.html
Brakes (pair) £285 http://www.merlincycles.com/hope-stealth-tech-evo-x2-m4-brakes-59435.htmll
Bottom Bracket £72 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/bottom-brackets?f=2258,4294966842
Crankset £123 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/race-face-evolve-xc-chainset-2012/rp-prod41195
Cassette £23 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shimano-deore-hg62-10-speed-mtb-cassette/rp-prod69268
Front Wheel £129, Rear £209 (Merlin)
Headset £65 (Merlin)
Stem £65 (CRC)
Bars £105 (CRC)
Seatpost £50
That comes to £1567. Allow £200 quid for saddle/pedals/tyres/chain/grips. And of course Orange can buy cheaper than me, so yes effectively you are paying best part of a grand for the frame and build.
Unbelievable
But if people are mad enough to pay it - who can blame Orange?0 -

Possibly, if Merida made it but even most of their frames are handmade. Robot welding's still uncommon in the bike industry. It's ironic that some people get moist over "handmade" when it's the default.Uncompromising extremist0 -

Bike frames aren't really suited to robot welding. The Orange 5 would actually be better suited to machine welding than most due to the longer straightish joints.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350
