Specialized Rockhopper suspension

Hi guys, after going years without using the mountain bike, its time to dig it out and get it sorted for the coast to coast in summer.
I do recall the suspension failing at some point, which im sure will be its main issue. Other than that I think its ok.
I think its a 2009 model.
Can anyone tell me, is the standard suspension generally worth getting repaired, or am I better off getting new forks?
On the type of terrain i'll be using I don't actually need suspension, but wondering if it could cause further damage if I dont get it sorted... if I decide to go for lockable suspension (probably wrong term!), how much can I expect to pay for something basic?
Thanks for any help.

If the fork is dead you probably need new one as I doubt it will be something worth fixing. Do you know the fork model?
You can fit rigid fork if don't need any travel or can get fairly decent air Suntour Raidon with lockout for about £130- cheaper if you find used one.0 -
Cheers Uli, yeh I think its dead, I recall some oil coming out near the top??
I might just get a rigid fork for it... any idea which would be compatible? I've no experience whatsoever with MTB maintenance !0 -
You need to get the length and steerer size right. Take it to LBS and they should be able to advise.0

Here's the full spec: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/spe ... 9#features
Fork: RockShox Tora SLite, 100mm, Alloy steerer, 32mm Cr-Mo stanchions, Magnesium lower, Preload and rebound adjust with LO “stiff” spring, Disc only
I remember it performing very similarly, even from new, regardless of how it was adjusted.0 -
Decent fork, very simple. What has actually failed.I don't do smileys.

There's not much that could be wrong with it. Not worth sending it away for a service though.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350
