I'm looking at getting into riding a few trails in my area so I'm looking at getting a mountain bike.
I have a budget of £700, I've looked at the 2014 Specialized Rockhopper 29er but heard good and bad things about it.
Are there any other/better bikes I could look at?

Plenty of better bikes - for your general XC riding, forest trails and the like, take a look at the Boardman Team and Comp.0

How you going to fit in biking with all your golf tournaments?
I'm pretty sure that Specialized bikes under £1000 are WELL over priced for what they are, as above there's plenty of choice in your price bracket so I'd take a shifty through Paul's cycles coz there's some real bargains to be had on there0 -

I'm sorry to say I do play golf lol. Believe me I've heard all the jokes.
I'll take a look at Paul's Cycles. And boardmans bikes.0 -

At that budget it's generally best to avoid the 'big brands' (Spesh, Giant, Trek, etc) as you'll be paying a premium for the 'name'.
Take a look at the Boardmans and Voodoos at Halfords and Rockriders at Decathlon0 -

If you can go an extra 100 this is a good option - it has a really good quality frame which is worthy of upgrades if you get into the sport, light, great discount too: http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/produ ... _2013_Bike
The Boardman makes sense too. Vitus might be a good option too. I'd certainly be looking at hardtails at this point.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0 -

He'd have to get it in lime green though
Great price on that0 -
True but the lime green is misleading, seems mostly grey/silver to me: http://www.whytebikes.com/2014/product. ... 4&xSec=149'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0
