Rear Wheel Removal

Recently built up a Cotic Soul with most of the components off my 2010 Genesis Core 20. I am having difficulty removing the rear wheel. When I pull the derailleur back to remove the wheel, there is not enough clearance between the jockey wheel/cage and the cassette to easily remove the wheel.
Any idea why? This did not happen on the Core.
The rear derailleur is a Shimano Deore SGS. 9 speed cassette. Running it as a cheap 1x9 at the moment, i.e. not using the front derailleur, still got the 3 chainrings with chain permanently on the middle ring.
Any help/advice will be appreciated.
I've got Soul.

    In the small cog?

And yes it can be a pain on others the Qr might need removing etc....

  • Yep in the small cog. Will take out the skewers next time and see if it helps.
