can I use a shorter shock

Just a quick theory question, and am just after advice if this will work or dont waste the money,I'm currently run a stock nukeproof scalp, and am thinking of dropping the travel down to about 180mm front and rear so I have a play bike. Now am wondering if it is as simple as just getting the next size shock down from what I am using? Which I think is 240x76 to a 222x70 and then getting a shorter fork of say a 170 lyrik or a 180 fox 36. Andbody know about doing something similar or any mathematicians that can tell ya or nay as to whether this will work, I do understand the shorter shock stroke will slacken the head angle slightly but should be remedied with the shorter a2c fork

It will also drop the bottom bracket lower

It will do more than change the head angle.

Ever wondered why bike designers provide different mounts and different mounting positions to give different travel with the same shock or different shocks?

You will also lower the bb and have a slacker seat and head angle.

I would be considering shoter stoke shocks first with maybe a slightly smaller i2i.

Don't do it. You're going to mess up a great bike.

Not sure of the leverage ration on the scalp, but it's typically 2 - 2.5:1, so that 18mm will usually mean a drop of 36-45mm, not just 18mm!
