Hi all,

For a while now I have been hunting for a 150mm BB axle to fit in my second hand 2008 Commencal MaxMax.

I bought the bike from my mate who kept the axle to fit in his 2008 Commencal Meta 5.5. We have tried different axle lengths in both bikes but we always have the problem of the chainrings fouling on the frame.

However from looking online we cant find anyone who stocks a 150mm BB axle of any make or type. Could anyone help with this? Does anyone know where we could get one or does anyone have one kicking about the garage not being used?!

The bike has a 68mm Shell and the crankset is a Truvativ Howitser, it needs to be an ISIS axle I believe too (assuming I am right in thinking that Octalink is the Shimano version)

I am not against buying a new BB in order to take the axle out or anything either if that what it comes to!

Thanks everyone

Right first things first it is NOT ISIS it is Howitzer fitting.

Buy the correct one for the chain line you need. 51 or 56mm

  • Cheers Nick,

Is Howitzer another different fit to PowerSpline then?

How would I find out what chainline I need for the bike? by measuring how far the chainring needs to be away from the centre of the seat tube to then not foul on the chainstay? or is there an easier way?

It is as different to power spline the same way ISIS is different to power spline.
And ISIS is different to Howizer as they are totally different concepts.

What width is the rear 135 then a 51 chain line should do.142 or150 and a 56 should do.

Again reading the manual on Howitzer cranks and BBs is a good idea.

  • Ok thanks again Nick,

I will have a read and a measure and go from there, I thought I understood splined bottom brackets but clearly not!

Power spline is a truvativ own.
Power drive is a FSA own
    ISIS
    Howitzer
    Octalink V1
    Octalink V2

None of the above is mixable.

There are other versions out there as well.
