Hi all,

Currently spending my evenings locked in a man cave training for my maiden Lejog in April. I cant get on with spin videos sufferfest ect - I prefer to watch things that take my mind off suffering rather than emphasise it!

Personally I find the best way to get through these sessions is by watching something cycling/fitness/motivational related.

Last night I watched channel 5s Go Hard Or Go Home -http://www.channel5.com/shows/go-hard-or-go-home - which kind of made me wince at times due to how far out of their depth, and frankly dangerous things were for some of the participants. .... but the effort the 65 year old put in really helped me through a turbo session.

Wondering if anyone else has suggestions for anything online, or available to buy which is cycling/ fitness related. I have watched all of the Team Ski series on Sky ... and the man who cycled the world and the americas - which is superb!

Might be nice to compile a new list here, cant be the only one looking to pass some lomng, boring garage hours!

Few that I have enjoyed

Blood Sweat and Gears ...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLYlhdtsMgo
Cavendish Human Missile ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mcRaUzdI5M

Also the "Art of Flight" documentary series on Netflix following some of the most extreme winter x games stars is pretty amazing.

Non cycling but still a good watch ....

TdF, Spring Classics and Giro highlights on YouTube. Most are in HD and most have been edited, so no ads. The TdF ones from ITV HD are 45-50 mins in length which is basically as long as it takes me to want to impale myself on the drops.

For an interval session - mimic your pace and effort as per the TV coverage, climbing (lots of resistance), breakaway (big (ger) gear fast(er)), etc.

If I'm doing a planned interval session then I just use music as it's easier to focus and concentrate on the goal of the session.

  • Not sure if I posted this into Road Buying Advice or if it was moved into here? Apologies if it was posted in wrong section - seems a bit weird for it to be in here though

Exactly this. If im watching a mountain stage then i try and replicate conditions on the turbo and climb with them - highest resistance setting and low gears.

My aim this year on the turbo is three sessions a week - one sufferfest, one cycling video and one film. I think by doing this i wont get bored of watching the same things over and over again !!

Been watching the Kona iron man and other triathlons, each last about 50 mins, also GCN spin classes are good
Wilier GTR and Italian Tifosi Stalion
  • Two great cycling films:
    Hell on Wheels
    A Sunday in Hell
My DVD of the latter contains a copy of the classic 1962 short documentary Vive Le Tour by Louis Malle, which I love possibly even more than the main feature.
