Not really - as and when needed.

The only things that need lubing are chains and mech pivot points.
  • Am I right to put a drop of oil on the chain after a cycle? I think I have the right oil?

    Just read Parktools.

And the manuals that came with the bike, or if you did not get any then read the info on the makers webby.

There is also a link at the bottom of this page about servicing.
"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

this really, there's likely to be a big difference in necessary service intervals between bikes ridden in the uk and bikes ridden in california

  • Depends on what you mean by service... should be cleaned really regularly in the winter.

The term 'service' is a bit vague... a thorough clean is something yo can do yourself, but a service like you have with a car isn't as necessary.

Forks on the other hand do need a regular re-lube, as does your chain.
