That's a high quality podium for a race at this time of year.

From what I've read, Porte and Evans tried to "win" it earlier, but Gerrans played his one (incredibly effective) card to sprint past. You may not like it (and I do not), but its very effective...

Quality contribution, that. Snide and insulting, in just 4 syllables. Done yourself proud.

The thread title should include a 'Look Away' warning for FF

I have an unjustified and inexplicable inherent dislike of Gerrans.

    Gerrans must be tiny.

    ETA

5'7" apparently v Porter at 5'8" and Evans at 5'9" (accordingly to Wikipedia)

Tell me about it. Was just about to post ABG before I saw the results. Cant stand that guy and if suggested above he did his trademark sucking then another load of scorn shall be poured on him. Would have been wonderful if Evans and Cadel had worked him over.

Yes, that would have been something to see

Haha yeah. Meant Porte of course.

  • Porte looked strong in that youtube clip, surprised he didn't ask Evans to pull a bit when they were chasing Meyer

Yeah you would have thought he'd do more than slipstream. Good on Porte even if futile particularly on those roads. Glad they are both on form...bodes well for TDU.

How odd, i also have an inexplicable and unjustifiable dislike for him, I wonder what it is about him?

Cheers for the links, looks like Evans was happy with a "guaranteed" silver whereas Porte knew it would be gold or bronze and tried to get away accordingly.

Not a Gerrans fan but he was very aware of what Porte was going to try when it would have been easy to assume he'd had his crack at glory and was going to sit in.

I quite like Gerrans style of winning ... Scrappy but effective (and although it looks scrappy I bet it takes a lot of mental strength to keep on top of the nuances of the breaks he gets into) ... When he won MSR everyone got on his case for the way he won but at the end of the day he got into that winning break when many more favourites did not ...

I have no reason to like/dislike him personally so wouldn't root for him to win unless he was up against someone else i disliked ...

Great, he gets to hopefully wear a less hideous jersey.

He's very pugilistic looking isn't he? Maybe that's why I don't like him? He doesn't look like he should be riding a bike, he looks like he should be doing something in a ring, playing with a funny shaped ball and/or starting bar fights.
    Correlation is not causation.

  • I don't get it. Gerrans rides to his abilities. He has a better sprint than anyone else in that group, so what do you expect him to do? If a rider is a good climber is it seen as being unsporting to attack on a climb?

This race is a bit like Milan San Remo, he's beaten riders better than he is and I like that. I like it when the underdog wins, especially when he's ridden with his brain rather than his legs. I also like it that so many forum members seem so upset about it!

And it seems like Evans wasn't that bothered anyway...
