Will 15 go into 9?

Quick question. If I wanted to swap the front wheel from my Boardman (15mm Maxle) into my Kraken (9mm QR dropouts), is there ay reason I couldn't just get an ally spacer turned up on a lathe to 15mm O.D. and 9mm I.D. (to use in conjunction with a Superstar 9mm QR skewer), or am I missing something obvious that would make it a non starter?

I would guess no problem, assuming you know how to turn a lathe. My Canyon came with Mavic cross rides with pretty much exactly what you are looking to make for the rear. They are two little pieces about 6mm wide that slot into the 15mm maxel opening and have an internal diameter to take a qr skewer. I expect mavic would have a diagram somewhere so you can see what they look like.0

I don't have a lathe myself, but there's no shortage of light engineering workshops around here that could knock a spacer like that up in a couple of minutes.0 -

Cheers, that's exactly what I'd pictured in my head (although rather pricey, including the postage). I guess it was a reasonable idea after all then, lol. I'm guessing the recessed o rings on his spacer are just to keep it captive when you remove the wheel.0 -
These are the Mavic ones I spoke of.

Can't see why they would not work with any wheel. Of course, less metal so suspect lighter. As you comment, I am pretty sure the o rings would just be to keep then captive.0 -
had to look into this recently as I'm going to get a front mavic crosstrail to go with the rear I've just bought and mavic don't give you the adaptors for the front only the rear
chain reaction also do a nukeproof solid axle conversion for 15-9mm, basically a metal bar that sits in the axle which is a bit tougher than a couple of clip on adaptors.0 -

I know where to get the adaptors :roll:0 -

Got a link? I can't find one on Chain Reaction (just the Mavic ones). I think a solid one like I'd pictured in my mind (and in that first link) would be more rigid than the Mavic press in ones.0 -

Probably thinking of the following one for a 5mm skewer that you don't want.

I doubt you would feel any difference between using the nukeproof or 9mm wide one above0 -

I'd found that one.0 -

Probably not, but if I'm going to do it then I may as well have the more rigid 9mm axle, plus a straight 9mm skewer's less fiddly to use.0
